Paxton, an early 19th Century rural domestic complex, is located in southeastern Powhatan County. The main dwelling, a brick home with Federal details, was constructed about 1819-1820 and it has been little altered since. Coeval outbuildings include a brick smokehouse, two small frame dwellings or offices, and a brick and frame icehouse and a barn that dates to the late 19th Century. Both the main dwelling and the outbuildings have retained much of their integrity, making Paxton an important survival of an early 19th Century farm complex which was once a familiar sight in Powhatan County.

The mansion's original Federal-Style exterior detailing remains largely intact, with only the shutters missing. The windows have elaborate architrave casings with mid 19th Century six-over-six-light sashes. Fluted end blocks add emphasis to the plain wooden lintels as well. This Historic Federal Style Brick Home with English basement is nestled on 10± Acres. It is a Registered Historic Landmark with mature landscaping with fountain and a 3-rail fencing.
